There’s something she’s completely missing. As much as it is a film about sex addiction, it’s a film about loneliness. In everything she does she’s lonely, especially in her relationships—even in her relationship with Jerome. There’s a moment when they connect, and then it frizzles out, and with her son, it’s not quite there. She’s looking for a connection, but a connection that won’t hurt her, because she’s so against love. But what love means is that you will get hurt down the line, because she doesn’t trust people. And that’s very sad, because then what is she looking for? The one thing you’re looking for you don’t want—so how do you go about finding it somewhere else? It’s complex.
